*** EXCLUSIVE *** CHOBE RIVER, BOTSWANA - MAY 26: A lioness and her cubs feed on the elephant carcass, on May 26, 2014 near the Chobe River, Botswana. THIS is the moment a hungry hippo fearlessly confronted a lioness and her cubs for a piece of an elephantís carcass. The family were feasting on the dead animal which had died of natural causes by the Chobe River in northern Botswana when the hippo emerged from the water. Grant Atkinson, a guide and wildlife photographer, captured the moment the hippo frightened the lions into fleeing before feeding on the elephant carcass. But the lioness was not deterred and patiently waited for the animal to finish. Once the hippo had had its fill and retreated back into the water the lioness returned to devour the meat.
